Tax Scam
That was a spam text sent out to thousands of people. The message is generic and not specifically addressed! Sign of scam!
Scammers would have no clue whom they are texting! (They would have a list of phone numbers which is fed into a computer which would spew out the message to hundreds of phone numbers! Only when someone who is naive enough to call them back, reveals his or her name, would the scammer know who the potential victim is!
If we are not personally addressed, we should ignore phone calls, texts and emails. Even if addressed personally, our first thought should be whether this is a case of Id theft, where scammers have got hold of some of our personal info.
Don’t talk to them. Hang up and block if they call from a new number.
The more you engage in talk with scammers, the more you will end up revealing about you and your family. Scammers will use the information you gave them, when they call back later and make the “matter” look real!
The few who call back are terrorized, into paying money, that they do not owe.
Stop answering calls from numbers you don’t recognize.
