Scare Tactics
Scammers use the sentence “You or your attorney should call back” within a specified time, very often during the bogus debt collection and extortion calls.
The intent of the scammer is definitely NOT to get your attorney to call. The scammer knows that almost no one would have an attorney in place, to handle the situation arising out of the threatening telephone call he has just made. The idea is to make the call look legit and the threat seem real.
The victims would not want to engage an attorney straight away, because of costs and trouble involved and instead will call back themselves and could get trapped, if they are not smart enough to spot the scam.
The scammer will emotionally drain the victim scaring him or her to death who would then proceed to pay money, to get out of the non existent “trouble”.
What would happen if someone gets an attorney to call back?! If an attorney calls back, the scammer would play it safe, excuse himself and hang up!!
"What would they do, if I indeed had an attorney?"
The last thing the scammer wants is a real attorney to call them!! And if an attorney calls the matter closes and they will not trouble the user again! Intrigued?!
The reason the crooks ask an attorney to call them is to "show off" that the call is legit!!
If a person is dumb, he will assume that the call is legit! Would be terrified and would think "Involving an attorney will add to my costs. Let me handle this myself"
Cool!! So he calls back and is scared to death with threat of imminent arrest and is forced to send money
What happens if an attorney calls? These guys would give some excuse and hang up!
The last thing they want is trouble! Neither they want to deal with smart guys who ask questions!! They only need people who get hassled quickly and hence are amenable and would fall for the con game!
