Collect Call, Call Forwarding Scam
Scammers are known to call potential victims to obtain address (address verification fraud), find out when the victims would not be at home (for a safe break-in). Apart from this, scammers could be looking to steal money by announcing that the victim has won a large sum, in a sweepstake draw, and would ask for bogus “fees & taxes” in advance.
Take care! Legitimate courier companies would not call customers to check whether they are at home. They would rather attempt delivery and if customer is absent, would schedule a redelivery at a different date.
Moreover, courier delivery services would not have information of content of parcel. Hence when someone calls from delivery service and says they have a check of certain denomination to deliver, it has to be a scam!
