Medicare, Medical Scam
Don’t even share your name or address with unknown callers. The scammers immediately connect your name, Address and phone number. They would try and obtain few more bits of data like name of your bank., from various sources. Later, the scammers will call you by name and identify themselves as your bank or some other entity that you trust and try to con you.
This is just an example of how personal info is misused. The scam could hit you in umpteen ways and you could inadvertently get trapped. Remember! Anyone can get bit of info on you from a variety of sources, it doesn’t mean they are legitimate.
There is absolutely no need to verify your information with anyone who calls, unless you are absolutely certain who the caller is and for what purpose the information shared will be used.
In effect, that means you should never be sharing info with strangers over phone. Scammers are known to impersonate lawyers, debt collectors, law enforcement officers, the IRS, the DEA, representatives of trusted service providers like banks only to extract personal information and use the same later to carry out serious scam.
Someone who needs information, has to approach you formally with a letter in mail, so that you could verify and satisfy yourself that the requirement is legit.
