As you rightly judged, the romance is nothing but a smokescreen to carry out scam! He is a scamming rat who would start coming up with one story after another, to fleece money.
He will fall sick (‘send money for hospital bills’), he will book flight ticket (‘send money’), he will meet with an accident on the way to airport & miss the flight (‘send more money’), his passport will get stolen (‘send money’)…. It would be a never ending procession of demands to send money.
African scammers are adept at pretending to be US Military Personnel, Engineers or Contractors. They would give one excuse or the other, not to appear on video!
