Fake Call, Text From Bank
The text message received by you is indeed a scam. Similar messages are sent to thousands of phone numbers. Some of those who have account with Rochester State Bank may fall for the scam, thinking it was a genuine alert.
The automated system will ask the victim to key-in, card number, name, date of birth and even the security code! And at the end of it, it will declare that your card is reactivated!
We should call our banks only at it’s official phone number which would be at the back of the bank card. Scammers call and send text messages pretending to be a Bank and will either direct victims to a phishing site or would try to extract account info over the phone
