Extortion Scam
Hi Thomas, this is an extortion attempt. The scammers repeat a specific generic message to all potential victims who are called.
If we are not personally addressed, we should ignore phone calls, texts and emails from unknown sources. Even if addressed personally, our first thought should be whether this is a case of Id theft, where scammers have got hold of some of our personal info.
When a scammer calls and asks to pay up, a victim will subconsciously connect the call to his old default & would think that the caller knows about the delinquent payment and might pay up! Many people who might have defaulted on a loan repayment, make grave error of paying money to scammers, who have no relation to the loan!
