Relative Stranded or Ill
Scammers from Asia, make cold calls telling everyone they speak to, the same story that your computer has problems to be fixed, it has a virus, it's slow or it's sending out error messages. They hope for baiting that one person who may actually be having some trouble and hence may assume the call is intended for him and hence legit!
It would be extremely unwise for someone to trust an unknown caller and give him access to computer. It’s as good as inviting a thief home and letting him carry out his ‘activities’, without any hindrance!
These foreign scammers are known for injecting virus into victim’s computer and completely damaging it. They will then offer to clean it, for a large Fee.
Even after the payment of Fees, users have found to their horror, that nothing has been done to remove the infections.
The error that we make when we receive such a call, is in presuming that the call is arriving from within the US and hence could probably be legit.
Don’t get carried away by the local number displayed. Scammers from Asia who run call centers spoof the phone number using software, to make it appear local.
