In response to thousands of emails sent at the same time, the scammers expect reply to a few, from people who are alarmed enough, to respond. The victims are then terrorized into paying money, by threatening arrest, jail term, wage garnishment and in the case of immigrants, deportation.
We should publish details of such email threats to help spread information about the scam and save others from being victimized.
