Holiday / Vacation Scam
Scammers look for ever new ways to instill fear. And the talk of "home was being watched" is certainly new!
The reason the scammers ask to call back is to allow the matter to sink in, creating confusion and tension in the potential victim.
The weak could get easily stressed & lose their ability to remain cool and the scammer will drive the screw deeper, eventually getting the victim to shell out money.
Scammers use the sentence “You or your attorney should call back” within a specified time, very often during the bogus debt collection and extortion calls.
The intent of the scammer is definitely NOT to get your attorney to call. The scammer knows that no one would have an attorney in place, to handle the situation arising out of the threatening telephone call he has just made. The idea is to make the call look legit and the threat seem real.
The victims would not want to engage an attorney straight away, because of costs and trouble involved and instead will call back themselves and could get trapped, if they are not smart enough to spot the scam.
The scammer will emotionally drain the victim scaring him or her to death who would then proceed to pay money, to get out of the non existent “trouble”.
What would happen if someone gets an attorney to call back?! If an attorney calls back, the scammer would play it safe, excuse himself and hang up!!
