Chicopee police warn of IRS Phone Scam asking to pay or the police will arrest them
Chicopee police released a statement Saturday warning residents about a phone scam that has been targeting members of the local community.
"Once again, many of our residents are getting calls from people stating they are the IRS and that they must pay or the police will arrest them," said Officer Mike Wilk of the Chicopee Police Department.
Wilk pointed out that the IRS are not known to call individuals, nor are the Chicopee police in the habit of arresting people on their behalf.
Wilk also encouraged residents to communicate with their elderly relatives, friends, and neighbors, and to notify them about the scam.
